Christ the King is a community of Anglican Christians committed to the ancient faith as taught by Jesus to His Apostles and, in turn, they passed on to the Church. Our mission affirms the three historic creeds; Apostles, Nicene, and Athanasian. Our worship is biblical, liturgical, sacramental and orthodox. We believe the faith that makes us whole is rooted in, and consistent with, the teaching of the undivided Church.
On November 4, 2018 the mission celebrated Mass for the first time, and was led by Fr. David D. Reed. The mission was planted by the authority of J. Alberto Morales O.S.B., 9th Bishop of the Diocese of Quincy. From November 2018 to August 2020, the mission celebrated Mass weekly at Nu-Beginning Farm; The Store. On August 8, 2020, Staunton was hit with a 100 year flood and the store, along with the supplies for the mission were destroyed. From August to December the mission continued to celebrate Mass at the home of Fr. David Reed. On January 3, 2021, the mission opened the doors to their new home at 623 Greenville Ave. Since that time the mission has faithfully served the community through Word and Sacrament. On September 14, 2024, the mission became a member of the Missionary Diocese of All Saints.
Sacred Scripture plays a central role in our understanding of God, His Word, and His will. The Bible, both Old and New Testaments, is the inspired Word of God and source of authority for the Church. We believe that the Scriptures are not only a historical record but also a living and active Word that continues to speak to us today. It is vital for us to study and reflect on the Scriptures in order to deepen our faith, understand the teachings of Christ, and discern God's will for our lives. We believe that the Scriptures are to be interpreted within the context of the Church's tradition and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
The sacraments are essential channels of God's grace and a vital part of our spiritual journey. Through these sacred rites, we are connected to Christ and to the Church. Baptism initiates us into the Christian life, while Confirmation strengthens our faith and empowers us for service. The Eucharist is the source and summit of our Christian life, where we receive the body and blood of Christ. Reconciliation offers us forgiveness and healing. Anointing of the Sick brings comfort and strength during illness. Holy Orders ordains Bishops, Priests, and Deacons to serve the Church. And Matrimony blesses the union of husband and wife. By participating in these sacraments, we experience the love and grace of God and grow in our relationship with Him.
Prayer is a central and essential aspect of our life. We believe that prayer is a conversation with God, a way to express our love, gratitude, and needs. Through prayer, we seek guidance, strength, and peace. Prayer includes personal prayer, communal prayer, and liturgical prayer. We use traditional prayers like the Lord's Prayer, ancient prayers passed down from the saints, as well as more contemporary forms of prayer. Prayer is not only a means of communication with God but also a way to deepen our relationship with Him and with others.
